PPGI Cold Rolled Prepainted Galvanized Iron Coils
PPGI is pre-painted galvanised iron, also known as pre-coated steel, coil coated steel, color coated steel etc., typically with a hot dip zinc coated steel substrate.
Using Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil as the substrate, PPGI is made by first going through surface pre-treatment, then the coating of one or more layers of liquid coating by roll coating, and finally baking and cooling. The coatings used to include polyester, silicon modified polyester, high-durability, corrosion-resistance and formability.
The term is an extension of GI which is a traditional abbreviation for Galvanized Iron. Today the term GI typically refers to essentially pure zinc (>99%) continuously hot dip coated steel, as opposed to batch dip processes. PPGI refers to factory pre-painted zinc coated steel, where the steel is painted before forming, as opposed to post painting which occurs after forming.
Pre-painted galvanized iron coil combines utility with beauty. It consists of tin, chrome, zinc or paint, which are the extra finish applied to the natural steel surface. The application of coating is to protect the surface of steel from oxidation and it is also used to enhance requirements for visual appearance.
