BAO STEEL DX51D SGCC 0.2mm Galvanized Steel Coil Cold Rolled
Galvanized Steel Coil Introduction
Cold-rolled galvanized sheet is a kind of galvanized steel sheet. Steel sheets are classified into two types: hot-rolled and cold-rolled. Cold-rolled sheet is flat, rectangular, and can be directly rolled. Cold rolling is a steel sheet in which the steel sheet is further thinned to a target thickness at room temperature. Compared with hot-rolled steel sheet, cold-rolled steel sheet has more accurate thickness, smooth and beautiful surface, and also has various superior mechanical properties, especially in terms of processability. Because cold-rolled raw coils are relatively brittle and hard, and are not suitable for processing, cold-rolled steel sheets are usually required to be annealed, pickled and surface smoothed before being delivered to customers. The minimum thickness of cold rolling is below 0.1--8.0MM.
A zinc coating is one of the most effective and economical methods of protecting bare steel from a corroding environment. The zinc not only serves as a barrier between the steel and the environment, but it will also sacrifice itself to protect the underlying steel sheet. Sacrificial or galvanic protection occurs when two dissimilar metals are in contact and coupled with water and oxygen. Zinc corrodes preferentially to the iron in steel. This protection prevents corrosion of the steel at areas not covered with zinc. Thus, the spread of corrosion from cut edges, drill holes, etc. is minimized.
Advantages of Galvanized Steel
The main advantage of galvanized steel is its corrosion resistance. The zinc coating serves as a barrier between the steel and the environment and will sacrifice itself in order to protect the underlying steel; Meaning the zinc will degrade much sooner than the steel itself. Additionally, it offers good processability and formability.
Hot dipped galvanized steel sheet & coil is made of carbon steel coated in zinc utilizing the hot-dip process. The end result of this process is a layer of zinc on each side of the steel sheet or coil that is tightly adhered to the steel through the formation of an iron-zinc alloy bonding layer. This bonding layer is formed by a diffusion process while the heated steel is in contact with molten zinc. Chesterfield can provide hot dipped galvanized steel sheet & coil to meet your ASTM requirements with customer-driven surface finish options.
